PRAYAGA - A two day Technical symposium

27/12/2012 21:04

Prayaga is a national level technical symposium which is being organized by Tirumala Engineering college. PRAYAGA- doesn't it sound strange! May be so, but the concept of it is familiar enough for us. It is a symbol of holy confluence. Similarly, technology, too, is a confluence - an amalgam of so many branches of engineering. Considering its holistic nature it is decided to celebrate the Fest involving all the departments. Students, what ever their branches are fired by the same vision and driven by the same motivations to unravel the intricacies and nuances of technology which has so drastically revolutionized life.

We are indeed very strong at our knowkedge base, but not so strong in its applications.Prayaga is meant to bridge the gap exposing students to newer vistas. Let every one share in the excitement and enlightenment of this great n ational level event.

CREATIVE WRITING:

CREATIVE WRITING :
Creative Writing is anything where purpose is to express thoughts, feelings and emotions rather than to simply convey information....

Creative writing is considered to be any writing, fiction or non-fiction that goes outside the bounds of normal professional, journalistic, academic, and technical forms of literature.

Three Step Creative Writing Process :
Idea collection: Use various brainstorming techniques to gather your thoughts on a specific topic.
Idea mapping: Create Mind Maps that organize your thoughts structurally.
Conversion to linear form: When writing or speaking, ideas must be presented one word after another. The challenge is to present the material in a way that the associations and structure of the material are not lost.

JAM

Jam:

Just-A-Minute (or JAM) is an all round-fun event that is all about the control of the mind over the mouth. Can you make it through sixty seconds of non-stop talking without hesitation, repetition, or deviation? Or will the sheer pressure make you crumble and have your competitors pounce on you in an instant?

The rules:

1. The JAM master is god. No questions or arguments once the final decision has been made
2. To object, slam the table and say “JAM”. The JAM master decides when you are allowed to put forth your objection
3. You get a penalty if the competition objects on any of the following counts:
a. You object out of turn
b. You stutter, stammer, and generally indulge in “time-wasting tactics”. These include efforts to buy time like interspersing your talk with “uhh”, “aah” etc...
c. Early start and late start
d. Speaking too fast or too slow
e. Grammatical errors
f. Undue stress on words, undue emphasis in the sentences
g. Repetition of a previously used idea
h. Not following the “random rules” as set by the JAM master. For example, the most popular random rule was “Praise Guntas before objecting”. If you forget to do so or the JAM master thinks that the praise was not good enough, you will not be allowed to object and lose points for an incorrect/bad objection
4. The total time is sixty seconds, inclusive of all the time that all the speakers in a given round are allowed to speak
5. Points are given in the following manner:
a. Positive points for every second that you speak
b. Positive points for every correct objection
c. Negative points for every incorrect objection
d. Bonus points for being the last speaker
6. The winner is the person with the maximum number of points at the end of the round.
BLACK AND WHITE:

BLACK  AND  WHITE :

Mostly every will either speak in positive or negative way regarding a topic but what if, if we speak about a topic both in positive & negative ways! It sounds interesting right? This interesting aspect is now put into practice by a great session named “BLACK AND WHITE”.  Black and white is the true technical fun ‘Ambi’ session, where you can enjoy the fun of “pros & cons” said by the same speaker regarding a topic with the time span of 3mins.
Black & white not only give euphoria to you, but it mainly ameliorate your management skills, because with in a short span you have to speak about a topic both in positive & negative ways with a conclusion too! Its really challenging & interesting competition.

BLACK & WHITE PROCEDURE: ( 3minuttes)
1.    First ‘half’ minute is meant for your introduction.
2. Next  ‘one’ minute is meant for pros regarding your topic.
3.Immediately you have to shift yourself to speak cons about your topic in the next ‘one’ minute.
4.And next ‘half’ minute is meant to conclude your topic, which should be balance both pros & cons regarding your topic.
